Two Systems. One Complete Grappling Education.
Most BJJ academies teach one style. Radius teaches two.
Our Gi program follows the Kore Martial Arts curriculum under Master Luigi Mondelli — a proven system built on fundamentals, pressure passing, and positional dominance. Our No-Gi program runs on the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system under Eddie Bravo — widely recognized as one of the most innovative and competition-tested No-Gi systems in the world.
This dual-system approach means you won't just learn Jiu-Jitsu — you'll develop a complete grappling game that works in the Gi, without the Gi, and in real self-defense situations.
What You'll Learn
Gi BJJ — Mon & Thu evenings (Travis)
- Classical guard work, sweeps, and submissions

- Leg locks, heel hooks, and modern submission chains
- Wrestling-based takedowns and scrambles
- Competition-focused drilling and live rounds
Class Structure
Every class follows a structured format:
- 1
Warm-up — Movement drills and positional drilling
- 2
Technique instruction — 2–3 techniques demonstrated, broken down, and practiced with a partner
- 3
Positional sparring — Focused live rounds from specific positions
- 4
Live rolling — Full sparring rounds (optional for beginners)
Classes are designed so beginners and experienced students train together safely. Instructors actively monitor rounds and pair students by experience level when needed.
Competition Training
Every Friday evening, Radius holds a dedicated competition training session led by Kurt Chase Patrick. These sessions focus on match strategy, takedown chains, conditioning under fatigue, and high-intensity live rounds. Students preparing for IBJJF, NAGA, Grappling Industries, or ADCC-rules events use this class to sharpen their game.
Our team has produced IBJJF Pan American Champions, ADCC Trials competitors, and regional tournament medalists.
Joined here about a year and a half ago from another gym and it’s a great community and excellent coaching for BJJ whether you’re looking for gi or no gi.
Great ju jujitsu and muay thai gym. Instructors are awesome and truly want to you improve your skills. I feel like my skills and overall game improve every time I train here.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu FAQ
Is 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu different from regular BJJ?
Yes. 10th Planet is a No-Gi system created by Eddie Bravo that emphasizes unorthodox positions like the Rubber Guard, Lockdown, and Truck. It's designed specifically for No-Gi competition and MMA. At Radius, you get access to this system alongside traditional Gi BJJ — a combination no other school in Connecticut offers.
Do I need a Gi to start?
Not necessarily. Our No-Gi classes only require a rash guard and grappling shorts (or athletic wear). If you want to train Gi BJJ, you’ll need a Gi — but you can start with No-Gi while you decide. Many students train both.
What belt system does Radius use?
Our Gi program follows the standard IBJJF belt system (white, blue, purple, brown, black). No-Gi classes use a rank-agnostic approach — skill is demonstrated through technique and live performance, not belt color.
How often should I train BJJ?
Most students train 2–4 times per week. Consistency matters more than volume. We recommend starting with 2–3 classes per week and increasing as your body adapts.
Can I train BJJ at Radius if I’m coming from another gym?
Absolutely. We welcome drop-ins and transfer students from all affiliations and lineages. Your existing rank is respected.
